The morning after: Bombay Gymkhana + some Ritu Kumar

The morning after: Bombay Gymkhana + some Ritu Kumar

The morning after the wedding reception was a lil rough, however, as a very famous Greek scholar (Kim Zolciak-Biermann) once sang, “Don’t be tardy for the party.” Our friends were hosting a small brunch at a legendary location that was definitely not one to be missed, even for those of us who are extremely athletically adverse (ME.) I was excited to see what all the fuss was about.

The Bombay Gymkhana was founded in 1875 as a British only club, (surprise!!!) and is now home to the Bombay Gymkhana Rugby Club. (Non-Brits are now members as well.) The club now no longer accepts new members, and membership is inherited, in that you can only become a member if your father was a member. Tough love.

We ate indoors in the lunch dining area, and I got too happy on Gimlets to take any photos. The food was out of this world and a great time was had by all. One of the guests at our lunch was a “skincare guru” from Italy who had just attended a conference where he debuted his latest findings on aging. He stared at me for 2 seconds across the table and in the next 4 seconds destroyed my personal worth, told me my right shoulder sags, my jaw slacks, and that I should use Yak face cream if I want to save myself. It was AMAZING.

After a languorous morning/afternoon of sloshing Gimlets and Kingfishers in the sunshine while noshing, laughing, learning about Yak cream, and watching people play cricket, it was off to do things I had a little more athletic prowess at. (Shopping.) A quick second stop at Fab India, the department store West Side, and a small Turkish designer who was showcasing for a limited time in Mumbai, coupled with a short stop at an eco-friendly, very chic store called Nicobar. All topped off with a visit to the one and only Ritu Kumar. Words do not suffice. Please see above and below.

Capping an adventurous day was dinner at Trishna, which, behind a very low-key unmarked door, specializes in grilled seafood and Indian BBQ. It is very well-known, does not take reservations, and is hard to find if you do not know where to look. Allegedly frequented by politicians, statesman, stars, and (l o l) Ambani’s, it is literally a room that resembles a train-car, completely no-frills, with a giant fish tank in it. Remember, you are there for the food. If they decide to show you one of the massive crabs or catch of the day, even better! Live a little, you’re on holiday.
