I Think I'm Regressing

I Think I'm Regressing

They say in times of trouble people reach for items of comfort. Sacks of wonder bread, old barney dolls, large tubs of margarine. All things that you know aren't exactly normal, but bring you that delicious warm sensation of comfort and love. In my times of trouble, I've found myself reaching for my old favorite movies and shows. Not your regular choices, but a nice array of uniqueness. You've got your weird ones up there, I'll assure you. I've always had a nice wide span of choices. I don't confine myself to a genre in life so why in movies or even shows? With the stress of school and the impending doom of Donald, I've climbed back into the womb. Heres how.

1) Romeo + Juliet: Three words. Yung Leo Baybay. Leo and Claire will make you believe in that weird, awkward, tender young love that everyone forgets existed when you were like 16 and believed anything was possible. Like wheeling someone in a night at a party where you were supposed to be hooking up with Paul Rudd, marrying them the next day, and then accidentally killing yourself bc you thought they were dead. (Sad face.)

2) American Psycho: I always turn to this old reliable. Something about the banging soundtrack, crisp aesthetic and dark humor always makes me chuckle, and Pat's skincare regime always keeps me on top of my game. Plus it really does give the finance industry a bad name.

3) Where The Wild Things Are: Idk why I did this to myself, it was more like emotional waterboarding as I was bawling by about 5 mins in. Mainly because Max's older sister wouldn't defend him against her dick friends when they broke his snow fort and I wanted to wipe his tears.

4) The Amanda Show: K I have a very good reason for this. Growing up I had one hero. That hero was Penelope Taynt. The creator and sole proprietor of www.amandaplease.com, she was a #girlboss, entrepreneur, techie, and stalker all before her time . So it makes utter sense that in times of chaos, one looks to a pinnacle of greatness. The people of Gotham have Batman. I have Penelope.

5) Laguna Beach: The motherlode. WELL. No shame in the game. You make on screen eye contact with the righteous tube-top wearing Kristin Cavallari for more then ten seconds and try not to get reeled right back in. Not only is it a great way to melt your brain like a grilled cheese in the midst of exam season, but mentally bullying Lauren Conrad and her pathetic attempts at getting with/flirting/being constantly friend-zoned by Stephen Colletti are almost as stress busting and cathartic as a good hot yoga class.

And there ya have it. Layla's guide to Cinema Obscura 2016. Please tell me if you want me to stop. Although chances are I will not.
